he Butchart system of staging Mesothelioma cancer is commonly used  for staging Pleural Mesothelioma, which manifest itself in the thin  lining that surrounds the lungs. This system organizes Mesothelioma  cases based on the size of the main tumor. It is one of the oldest forms  of staging Mesothelioma cancer patient’s illness levels and treatments. 
Origins Of The Butchart System Of Mesothelioma Staging
Eric G. Butchart M.D. developed the Butchart staging system. This staging system  has been around since the early 70’s, and it is now used by a large  number of Mesothelioma specialists because of its simplicity and  relevance to prognosis and therapeutic options. 
The Identification of Treatment Staging
Treatments are also communicated by using roman numerals for example, Stage I, Stage II, Stage III and Stage IV.
Stage One
Stage one with the Butchart system means that the cancer is present  within the pleura on either side. This can also include the lung,  pericardium, or the diaphragm. 
Stage Two
Stage two means that the cancer is in the chest wall or involves the  esophagus, heart, or pleura on both sides. The lymph nodes in the chest  could also be cancerous. 
Stage Three
Stage three means the cancer has now gone through the diaphragm into  the peritoneum. The lymph nodes beyond those in the chest area can also  be involved. 
Stage Four
Stage four means that cancerous cells have spread to other organs of  the body through the bloodstream, this is metastases Mesothelioma. 
Treatment of Mesothelioma Cancer
Treatment options for all four stages include:
- Surgery
 - Radiation Therapy
 - Chemotherapy
 - Alternative Therapies
 
With palliative treatment taking priority in the latter stages of Mesothelioma Cancer.
